Ivy’s Bridal Session

We’ve sorted the stacks of un-blogged sessions from 2009 and we’re excited to catch you up on some of our favorite fab images that we didn’t have time to share with you during the busy season last year!

Bridal sessions, in particular, are hard for me to remember to blog, because they’re “top secret” until after the wedding, so I’m not surprised we forgot to blog about Ivy’s bridal portraits. Here are several of our favorites from the session at the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie, OK.

I can’t say we often turn stain-glass windows into B&W images, but this one just really begged to be B&W.

I just love this image with Ivy on the red couch

We’ll try to blog some of Ivy’s wedding day favorites next, so check back soon to see them! We had a few surprises to deal with at the wedding, including rain for her beautiful outside ceremony! But we got some great shots and everyone had a good time despite the weather. It was easily one of the most memorable weddings of 2009. =)

Her dress and hair piece are so different! I love them! The black and white is beautiful!

Portraits in Arcadia, Oklahoma

Here’s a post of one of our Fall portrait sessions that I thought of today and realized I’d never blogged about. During our busiest seasons, it’s hard to keep up, so I may pull a few favorites out and share them with you. This particular session came to mind today when I was talking with a bride about doing some rustic country bridal and engagement portraits.

One of the cool things about Oklahoma is that you don’t have to drive far to find really unique, unusual settings for portraits. When Rebecca contacted us last Fall with the idea in mind of a more country, old-town feel for portraits with her son, we immediately though of this old town just East of Edmond. Doesn’t it look like someplace from the 1800’s?

I love the color and lighting in the trees of this first image…

We found this old safe... I think Cameron and I would have been happy to stay there the rest of the day to try to open it

I think this is my favorite from the day. Love the light and feel of this one! He's even chewing on a long piece of grass!

On the way back into town, we kept our eyes open for some red color to use as a backdrop for just a few more portraits. We actually pulled off the highway to get this image and had a few pickup trucks honk their approval as they drove by. =)

I look forward to doing more of these unique locations and country feel portraits. We did several last year at customers’ ranches, homesteads, etc. out in the country, and they really make for the best personalized family portraits ever!

That’s a pretty location, made for some great pictures! I don’t know why but the last one is actually my favorite :)

Sweet! Brandi got a Gravatar picture! Nicely done!

Functionality of the new blog-site

Call me a nerd, but I’m just as excited about the functionality of this new blog-site as I am about the look of it. Unless you’re a nerd like me, you might totally overlook some of the coolest features, so let’s talk about a few of them just to make sure you’re comfortable using them.

Categories –>

categories clip

Categories will be very helpful when searching for posts and images about a certain type of photography in particular. Let’s say you’re a high school senior looking to see what we’ve done with other seniors… The last thing they want to see would be lots of pictures of babies and weddings, right? We’re thinking “categories” will basically replace our need for portfolio galleries of each area (i.e. newborns, weddings, proposals, engagements, seniors, families, etc.). We used to have a separate portfolio of each of those subjects and it was really time-consuming to keep up-to-date, so it often wasn’t.

Avatars in Comments

avatar

<– This is probably more of a “fun” feature, but it’s helpful to see a little picture (“avatar”) of the commenter so we can immediately recognize who is commenting. If you don’t see a picture next to your name, you can create one really easily (took me about 30 seconds) at Gravatar.com. so next time you comment, you’ll see your mug next to your comment!

Easy to Re-Tweet and Share in Facebok –>

sharethis

This is probably the function I’m most excited about, to be honest. Now, when we post a sneak preview of pictures, it’s easier than ever to share them with friends! Twitter and Facebook are no-brainers, but there’s a little “Share This” option next to the other two icons, and that brings up a hundred other options for sharing if you’re not into Twitter or Facebook.

View Recent Tweets

twitterfeed<– This one is really easy to overlook. Way up in the top left corner of our web page, you’ll see “Twitter Feed” written vertically down the left side of the page. Move your mouse over it and out will slide our most recent 5 tweets, along with other helpful Twitter-related links. Very fun in a nerdy kinda way. =)

Older Posts Link –>clipping

This was one of the crazy limitations of our last blog… at the bottom of the page, we weren’t able to put a link to click to see “older posts.”

I think all of the other features are pretty self-explanatory or basic, but if I overlooked something please let us know and we’ll edit the post to explain whatever it is and give you a little plug/credit for helping us out! We always appreciate that.

Well, thanks for stopping by and reading through my nerd post. Hopefully it will help some of these newer features make sense and be used as you need them. I get so excited about features and technology, that if it weren’t for Holly, I’d probably post about it all the time and think that y’all like that kind of stuff, too. Was this helpful at all? Or was the site pretty self-explanatory? Do you like new features and technology as much as I do? =) We’d love to hear about it.

I think this is a great post, even taught me some things I wasn’t making the most of with my blog. Thanks!

Photo of the Day: Snow Days

Just wanted to share a fun picture from the most recent snowstorm. This just cracks me up! This is Storie, trying to catch a snowflake on her tongue. The snow was coming down so hard, that she pulled her hat down over her eyes, covering them completely! I pulled it up several times, but this was the highest she’d let me raise it, and only for a moment.

snowday

This reminds me of her other most recent trick she’s been proud to show people… Chewing with her eyes closed. What gifted children. =)

Dana - February 3, 2010 - 2:20 pm

I love the crispness of the pic, Christian – I can even see that her nose is about to drip! And what an adorable expression. Can’t wait to see Storie and you all later this month. Catch you later.

csangree - February 5, 2010 - 12:35 pm

Thanks, Dana! Can’t wait to see y’all too. Been looking forward to it for SO long!

Welcome to the new blog-site!

Yes, a blog-site! It’s part blog, part website, and all new for 2010. (Uh, that sounded better in my head… anyway…) While we get everything set up, don’t hesitate to let us know if you can’t find something you’re looking for, or if we can help in any way. Until we are able to set up galleries here, you can view our old portfolios here.

This post will stay here at the top of our list of posts for a while (as a *stickie*) until we feel that everyone is somewhat accustomed to the newness and awesomeness, so we’ll keep it short. =) More soon on the new features, etc.

callie - February 3, 2010 - 7:18 pm

Love it! You guys rock…

Dad - February 3, 2010 - 8:02 pm

Hi Christian. We think the web site is very good and interesting. The background design is great. You have a state of the art blog.

csangree - February 5, 2010 - 9:56 am

Thanks so much, Callie and Dad!

Anniversaries, Winter Storms, and Time-Lapsed Video

How are y’all enjoying the wintry weather?! We were fortunate enough to have last weekend alone (without the kids) to celebrate our 7th anniversary. We are so grateful for grandparents nearby who love to have the kids over on a regular basis! We had a great time, and despite the weather, we ate at all of our favorite places and got to enjoy the theater as well as a pedicure for Holly (while I found a comfy leather chair to browse my iPhone in).

The weekend passed all too quickly, but we agreed that it felt like a second honeymoon in many ways… Namely, the snowfall (we honeymooned in Colorado Springs), the fondue, endless hours spent together in front of a roaring fire, and taking in some fun movies.

Speaking of movies, we had a hard time deciding between Leap Year (romantic comedy) and Edge of Darkness (with Mel Gibson). The Mel Gibson movie ended up getting our vote, and made us jump out of our seats more than once. I guess we should have gone to see Leap Year after all. It would have made the better anniversary movie, but we still enjoyed Edge of Darkness. It’s a bit gritty with some close-ups of violent scenes that got to be a bit much for Holly, but it was gripping and very well done, in our opinions. One to definitely see in the theater to get the full effect!

This morning I watched the most beautiful video of time-lapsed DSLR videography featuring the city of Vancouver, where the 2010 winter Olympics will be hosted. As an artist, I think it’s particularly enjoyable and inspiring to get lost in another artist’s work.It was so well done I watched it a few times and thought maybe you’d enjoy it as well…

What did you think?! We’d love to hear your thoughts!

New Blog & Logo Coming Soon!

One of the many projects we’re working on during our slow season is setting up a new blog. We’ve been with Blogger since January of 2006 and blogs have changed so much since then! =) We had pretty much customized it as much as we could and were running into time-consuming issues, so we’re excited to be making a change that should make blogging a bit less of a chore. =)

We’re working on a bit of an update to our (old) logo as well! When Holly had our current logo designed more than 10 years ago, our business was really centered around children’s portraiture. Since then, we’ve really expanded into so many other areas, that we felt it was time for an update to reflect a bit more simple, elegant and classic style than our old logo was reflecting.

Want a little peek at the new logo?

What do you think?! We got some feedback from our Twitter and Facebook friends already and thought it was time to mention it on the blog. (We do float ideas on Twitter and Facebook sooner than the blog, so if you like being in the know on all of these kinds of things, definitely look us up – we’d love to catch up with you there!)

Stay tuned for the changes! I haven’t heard an estimate of time yet from the designers, but I understand it’s a fairly quick process… So I hope to have it up within the next week or so!
